sparrow

i photographed sparrow, a gregarious boy, in 2008 and again in 2012 for underdogResQ.org. sparrow is the perfect underdog; with his pit bull body and his penchant for +20 lick-attacks of exuberant puppy-fu, he was a handful.

it took him eight years to find his forever home, but finally, sparrow has his own little christmas gift: a loving home with his foster family. sparrow is one of many underdogs in need of homes; whether you’re in underdog resQ’s network area or not, please consider that puppy (or kitten, or guinea pig, or…) who seems entirely too much of a handful. maybe they are just starving for affection. and i don’t know about YOU, but i think that an affection-packed pet is a nice problem to have.

all they want is a home. and a face to lick furiously.

in fact, sparrow was so very intent on licking my face that what you DON’T see (and what makes me an awesome photographer) is his leash wrapped around that porch post. he had pulled it tight, and kept scooting up toward the camera. so i suppose the caption to this photo would be more along the lines of

OMG I CAN’T REACH YOU BUT I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO KISS YOU AND KISS YOU AND YOU HAVE A BALL RIGHT? I THINK I SAW YOU HAD A BALL AND I WOULD LIKE FOR YOU TO THROW THE BALL SO I CAN GET IT FOR YOU AND THEN I WOULD COME BACK AND LICK YOUR FACE AGAIN BECAUSE I THINK I MAY HAVE LEFT A DRY SPOT AND THAT’S NOT GOOD BECAUSE I WANT TO BE A GOOD BOY AND GIVE YOU TONS OF KISSES OMG WHY CAN’T I REACH YOU I WANT TO COME CLOSER WHAT IS THAT BLACK THING IN FRONT OF YOUR FACE I THINK I COULD LICK THAT TOO
